This error message keeps popping up. I try to change the outgoing SMTP settings and that can get it to work for a day or two, then the message comes back. Thunderbird was working great until about a month ago, now ever other day it gives me this error message.

Your email providers server is telling you that you have sent as many emails as they allow in whatever time period they have set. Why do you think this is a Thunderbird problem? Your provider issued the error. Thunderbird did not make it up. I suggest you ask your provider what their "quota" is.

Ok. Nice try but no. The mail server should have unlimited sending capabilities. There is something else. I know it is thunderbird because using another mail program allows many emails to be sent.

Should have? What does that mean? Is that your opinion? Why is your providers server rejecting your message and issuing the error then? Did they explain that one to you? The error is in plain English and should be fairly easy to understand.

Let's see if the quota was already met then why would the email send after switching the Smpt settings back and forth for a few minutes then back to the right setting that it originally had and the email sends without deleting any old messages? What about that Mr airmail?

Let me put it in terms you might understand.

It is kind of like Last Call for Alcohol. You are done for the night but can start drinking again in the morning.

You are not permanently cut off. Go to your email provider and let them explain it to you. I am done wasting my time.

Good leave this one alone please. Maybe that way someone who could actually help will answer. After this "last call" you speak of, can you drink again in 5 minutes by switching bartenders? No because you have reached you quota. So your little metaphor does not apply to this instance. If my quota was actually met then the email would not send from other mail programs. Let me put it in small words so maybe you will understand. You are full of it. Please leave this one alone Mr. Airmail. You apparently have no idea what you are talking about.

what is the smtp server name? who is your ISP? I'm guessing that it has something to do with dreamhost.com.

That error message was sent to you from the server. This info explains fully why you got that error message.

Gee. Imagine that. Your email provider has a quota. Who would have thought? And it resets after an hour. Amazing.

First off, Airmail just leave this one alone. Your brain does not the processing capabilities to perform this action. Maybe you should reboot or shut down. It would be better for me if you just shut down and left me alone.

Now to the steamboat link post. There is no way I am trying to send more than 100 emails in an hour so I know it is not a quota issue. That is why I posted the question. But it just seems everyone wants to try and take the easy way out. It is not a quota issue. Like all other post I have made this message only comes through on thunderbird. Other mail programs send the emails fine. Then why am I here, because the owner of the computer wants to use thunderbird. My advice, use a mail program that actually works.

When informtion is offered, such as the link info, you need to read it and act upon the advice it gives. You have not offered any feedback on whether you have acted as they advise.

It is not Thunderbird, Thunderbird does not send out such emails pretending to be somesone's server. It is a message from the server - dreamhost.com (not steamboat). Thunderbird has no control over what the server sends out as a message to you, but the fact you received the message tells you something is clearly not right if you are not exceeding the quota.

The 100 quota relates to number of 'recipients' not number of emails. So one email to 5 people will count as five, not one. If you sent out to eg; 60 recipients then tried to send one email to 41 recipients, the second email will fail. Although you only sent to 60, the second batch would push it over the edge because amalgamated they are more than 100 recipients. So in this instance you actually only sent out 60 in the hour. As soon as the next hour begins, which could be literally minutes, then you can send again. This may explain why you can then send out by another means.

Look at the time stamp on the message from the server, then look at your Sent folder to see how many recipients have been sent an email in the last hour. Then check other email programs eg; Outlook or webmail account and check how many you have sent. Add them together. This is the figure you will need to know when contacting the support.

You need to find out whether someone is abusing your email address and sending emails in your name without your knowledge.

If you know that you have not exceeded your sending limits and receive the error "Policy Rejection- Quota Exceeded", then contact support. Give us the e-mail address/username that is being blocked and we can review the mail logs to determine what has happened. It could be that e-mails have been sent through your e-mail account without your knowledge. If that happens, you must run virus, spyware, and adware scans to clean up your computer.

So have you done as they advise? Did you contact them to find out what is going on? What did they offer as an explanation? Did you run virus, spyware, and adware scans?
