email not working
I had to reset my BT password. My Ipad and Iphone send and receive emails OK following the reset. However, when trying to send to my BT address from TB I am told that Internet Accounts preferences can't connect to the Yahoo account - and then it gives my email address. It asks me to enter the password for my account. I have done this on numerous occasions with no success. However, the password does work for my other machines and I can enter the BT site directly.
If you have a possible solution can you please keep it simple?
Thanks

Internet Accounts preferences can't connect to the Yahoo account
What is Internet Accounts preferences? It is a term I have never heard of.
Please post the troubleshooting information from the help menu. (Copy to clipboard and paste into a message here on the forum) Please verbatim, what is the error message ? What anti virus are you using?
Thanks for the reply and apologies if I have misled. The position seems to be altering daily. The message I now get is:
Sending of message failed. Please verify that your Mail & Newsgroups account settings are correct and try again.
I am not using any anti-virus, having been assured that it is not necessary with Mac.

Again I ask.
Matt, To respond to your request: the reference to Internet Preferences concerned Mac Mail and I guess that you would not be concerned with that. I apologise for raising that point.
The error message I receive when trying to send via TB is:
Send Message Error Sending of message failed. Please verify that your mail and newsgroups account settings are correct and try again.
This is my last try.

I see that I have tried your patience to its limit. I can be of no further help and accordingly I thank you for your attempts and depart from the scene.
What is so hard about going to the help menu, clicking troubleshooting and then clicking the button copy to clipboard followed by placing a cursor in a reply on the forum and selecting paste.
Put like that, nothing. It is a process of which I was unaware.

I can see at least two major issues.
First you need to go to the add-ons entry on the tools menu (alt+T) and remove Remove Duplicate Messages, 0.1.14 you do not need two dunplicate add-ons and they will probably not work well together.
Second your Gmail account is using a BTinternet outgoing SMTP server. That should be a Gmail one. BR will almost certainly no accept such mail for transmission. Go to the outgoing server (SMTP) in account settings and add a new SMTP server with the following data. Server smtp.gmail.com Port 587 Username your gmail address Authentication Normal password Connection security STARTTLS Now select your gmail accounts name in the account settings list and set the SMTP ser on that pane to the newly added gmail one.
Now I understand that BTinternet have been using yahoo as a mail provider, but I thought they had moved on from that failed arrangement. As You have no Yahoo servers I must assume that something is amiss with your network setting on your mac and it is getting the yahoo name for BT mail. Perhaps a reboot will clear that up.
The information here http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44917/~/bt-email%3A-what-are-the-settings-for-outgoing-and-incoming-mail-servers%3F indicated that the port for BTinternet should be 995 with SSL you are using 993 with SSL Perhaps correcting the port will correct the error condition.
Thanks for your prompt reply. I have followed your instructions re the gmail address but received an error message. I have again copied the troubleshooting info and attach it below. I could not locate 0.1.14 in the add-ons to remove duplicate messages.
I notice, and you will see, that the gmail address has a pop.gmail.com tag and I wonder whether that is correct.
I have changed the BT port as you suggest. Have not noticed anything different yet.
