Why can't I open the irc/ircs files in attachments/ emails?

Hi, I received an email with two attached documents in the file format irc and ircs but can't open it. How can I open the attached documents and what kind of file format is it? In the section option in firefox and application it is stated "Always ask" on these files but can be adjusted to "others"/Use Mibbit. Could you assist to solve the problem?

Do you know who they came from? I sure would not open them if the answer is no.

Either way this has nothing to do with Thunderbird. It just delivers the attachment. It is up to you to have whatever it takes to work with the attached file.
