I tried to follow the multi-page, multi-location instructions to move my old Thunderbird data files (my profile?) to the computer which I just had repaired and on which I had to install Thunderbird. But I got so screwed up moving from one set of instructions to another that I had to stop and beg for help. About the only thing I accomplished is to create a new Profile (I think).

I found thunderbird\Profiles on my backup disk. Now, what do I do to copy it to my c: drive?

(One instruction told me to click on Help>Troubleshooting to find my new Profile location, but there is no Help in Thunderbird)

Rright click in the upper (blue) part and select menu bar. If you want it permanent select it now in View / Toolbars. Under Help is "troubleshooting information" In there you have a button: Show Folder which will open your profile-directory.

ONLY if you haven't set up any accounts and received any mail you can overwrite your new profile with your old one.

Your Thunderbird profile has probably a name XXX??.default were XXX?? is random. Everything INSIDE / UNDER the saved profile could be copied to the new one. the XXX??.default in you new profile should NOT be overwritten or altered.

EDIT After you find your profile EXIT THUNDERBIRD very important!!!!
