This pops up and cancels out whatever page I am on. It wants me to update firefox but doesn't appear to really be a Mozilla product. Your website indicates I have the latest version.

As been mentioned in that contributors thread you can use Extensions like uBlock Origin or the more complex NoScript extension.

No it is not legit. Does it make sense for Mozilla to host a update or download from a weird url and does not even have Mozilla or Firefox in url.

The fake patch/update exe can install things like trojans, viruses or unwanted software based on past reports.

The desktop Firefox is not just for Windows as it is for Mac OSX and Linux also so .exe would not be an effective way to send out Firefox updates. The updates are done internally in Firefox (with a .mar type of file) or by download from mozilla.org like say www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

Even if Mozilla were to use .exe for Firefox updates on Windows, they would be serving them from a *.mozilla.org url and not from random websites with weird names.

It is a recent website that is serving a fake firefox update/patch .exe as can be seen at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/contributors/712056

I know it's fake, how can I block it?
