I belong to a few survey sites so I can earn some extra cash. A few of these sites host surveys by SSIsurveys. These surveys never open in Firefox however they do open in Chrome. I keep Firefox up-to-date and am running FF 50.1.0. When I try to open one of these surveys in Firefox I get the following error page. You have to understand that I wasn't able to answer anything and that this was the first page I saw when I clicked the link to take the survey in the email I received. The URL for this survey was: http://dkr1.ssisurveys.com/projects/start?psid=DI23tk9XdYo98DcMv9eCLbK0gK-xMtXm I have contacted SSIsurveys but I am unsure whether they will answer me directly because they are not the ones sending out the survey to me and I have also contacted the sites that send me the surveys and they haven't answered me yet either. Where it says to click below for another chance doesn't work either. If I look in the top tab I can see "connecting" briefly followed by "please try again" because it will not connect to the site.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove the cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Clear the cache":

  • Firefox/Options/Preferences -> Advanced -> Network -> Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems.

  • Firefox/Options/Preferences -> Privacy -> "Use custom settings for history" -> Cookies: "Show Cookies"

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Flash Block, Ghostery) then make sure such extensions do not block content. There is security software that can interfere with loading content, so check that as well.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

I did what you asked and cleared the cache and cookies as I have several times before. This did not fix the problem. Then I went into Firefox Safe Mode and accessed a survey link. Luckily it was one of those that normally gives me the problem I stated in my original post. Again I got that error message. To double check, I started Chrome, copied the url in the web browser and had no problem seeing the survey without the error report and could take the survey.

Here is the url of the survey I get the error message for.

I had no problem with your link. Win 7 Firefox Version 45.6.0 ESR

You might try disabling three of your plug-ins - Catalina Savings Printer Coupon Printer Plugin RevTrax PrintMyCoupon. Some of these type of plug-ins don't have a good reputation.

My Firefox is already up to version 50.1.0 and I doubt I can go back to a previous version.

The plug ins you discuss work on both browsers and I use them because I print coupons. So why does it not affect Chrome but it does affect Firefox? I will try your suggestion later however I suspect there is something else going on.

Further, I ran Firefox in Safe Mode which would have disabled all of the add-ons and extensions and the same thing happened. But, apparently it isn't occurring with Firefox version 45.6.0. So something was added between these two FF versions. I didn't have the problem before now, either.

Firefox 42+ has a Tracking Protection feature that is enabled by default in Private Browsing mode. When you are in private browsing mode then Firefox can show a shield icon at the left end of the location/address bar that some content is affected.

You can disable this feature in "Options/Preferences > Privacy" or via the about:privatebrowsing page that get when you open a New Private Window.

  • Options/Preferences > Privacy: "Use Tracking Protection in Private Windows"

Not browsing in Private mode but that is good to know anyway. I am unsure that it has anything to do with cookies as I sure have to clear a lot of them regularly.

Perhaps for a wider audience - <Safe Mode temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes) that might be causing problems>. Plug-ins are not disabled.

Firefox. I do not use IE. I hadn't used Chrome either but figured I'd give it a try when I kept getting the error messages in FF.
