how do i really stop autoplay (including autoplay triggered by scripts)

more options

when media starts playing on my computer without my consent, this should be considered a cybercime.

The only way for a video to start playing should be `right click -> play`

cut the nonsense with the *media.autoplay.enabled* switch. it doesnt work and it never will. as soon as the website uses any kind of scripting, this switch is ineffective.

which extension do i need to install to stop this autoplay nightmare forever?

Mozilla support recommends against this, says it "breaks things" and people forget they changed the setting. Any idea what they mean?

They recommend this instead:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/disable-autoplay/

In my last reply, I said: "Note that this breaks custom players on Vimeo, Netflix, and Imgur (GIFV files)."

As for people forgetting, yes, people forget all kinds of things. At least media.autoplay.enabled is named in a way that you could find later.

Does that extension work well for you? The fact that it can be controlled on a site-by-site basis looks like a great advantage over the built-in setting, which does not have a way to make exceptions.
