Firefox fox keep prompting me to save my new password every time I go to a site. This is happening on multiple sites. How do I fix this without disabling password saving completely.

Hi  !

Would you please type in the address bar :

about:preferences#privacy (press Enter)

And under 'Forms & Passwords' make sure that :

'Remember logins and passwords for sites' is checked.

This doesn't answer my question at all. Cut and paste answers are worthless

If it is checked it should not prompt you to enter your password, as it supposed to be remembered .....

But would you please take a look at tis article :

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/password-manager-remember-delete-change-and-import?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Remembering+passwords

Is this helpful  ?

if it was doing what it was supposed to do I wouldn't post here for a solution. your article does not help at all.I know how to make it save passwords, that is not my issue. It prompted me every time for the same website to "update password" after it already filled in the password

You have checked 'Remember logins and passwords for websites' To the right is a button called Exceptions . If you tell Firefox to save passwords, it will always ask about new passwords.

The website might use JavaScript to validate the login data and move it to others (hidden) form fields or modify this data in a way that Firefox thinks that the data got updated. You can verify that by allowing Firefox to update the password and check it in the Password Manager.

Note that you can double-click username and password fields in the Password Manager to modify and update its values.

I have the same problem but only after the update to Firefox Quantum. It doesn't save any passwords for any site. It always comes up with the dialogue and asks me if I want to save the password for this site. If I select to save it it will ask me again next time I visit this site. This is for any sites and for all sites I previously saved passwords using the previous version of firefox. So it didn't even migrate my saved passwords to the new firefox version. It did migrate the exceptions list though.

And before anyone asks, yes I did check the settings and no the site(s) is/are not in the exceptions list.

Cheers

Peter

It is possible that there is a problem with the logins.json and key3.db files that store the usernames and passwords if you do not see any passwords at all in the Password Manager. It is also possible that there are corrupted entries or entries with a blank user name that cause issues.

You can check the logins.json file in a plain text editor and try to rename the two files logins.json and key3.db to see if that makes saving passwords work. Firefox will create new files.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Sorry didn't fix my problem. No new files were created.
