Can't install unsigned add on even with Developers Edition.
Hello, I've downloaded an add on and changed it for personal purposes. Now I can't permanently install it - only temporarily. When I try to install it says that the file appears to be corrupt. I checked in Goggle and learned that I can only install unsigned add ons in Developer Edition and after changing a preference in about:config. I did them both - installed this edition and changed the relevant pref. And ofcourse tried to restart Firefox, but still the same message.

Can you at least load the extension temporarily via the about:debugging page?
It is possible that you made an error and that the modified extension is corrupted.

Can you load the extension in Nightly?
Make sure to use a separate profile and not a profile used by other Firefox versions.
I wish to use the same profile. Is that impossible?
Nighty can modify a profile in a way that is is no longer compatible with older versions like the release. That is the main reason I wrote that you should use a separate profile. Firefox uses two locations for the Firefox profile folder, so not only the main location used for your personal data can be affected. Because this is only meant for testing and not about keep using Nightly, a new/separate profile for Nightly shouldn't be a big problem.
Nightly updates twice a day unlike DE that updates twice a week and is also more unstable (i.e. at times thing can be broken).
You can also try the Addons forum.
Same problem. Cannot load unsigned extensions in Developer or Nightly even with xpisignautres toggled.
If you take the same extension and sign it through Mozilla it loads and works fine but if it is unsigned it is rejected as "corrupt".
Same extension can be temporarily loaded in Developer under about:debugging but does not actually function.
Longstanding problem.
Also themes rejected for the same reason even though all Mozilla documentation says they don't need to be signed, which is also clearly wrong.
