I'm trying to understand how detaching an attachment works in Thunderbird 68. If I understand it correctly it removes the attachments from the message and then saves it locally on your computer. The message itself it still in your inbox with a link to that saved file(s) on your computer. The purpose behind this is to reduce the size of your inbox?

Thanks

That's right, it reduces the size of the Inbox, while keeping a reference to the detached file. Deleting attachments from sent messages also saves space, as you already have a copy on the computer.

There is a bug where the link is broken if the attachment name has a comma.

Thanks for the info.... I'm glad that feature is in there. It will help me trim down the size of my gmail mailbox.
