seems I lost some bookmarks while making the move from chrome. any suggestions as to how to recover them and then access them?

Have you tried this? Instead of using the Firefox import tool straight from Chrome try opening Chrome again and export your Bookmarks as a HTML file and then using Firefox import that file into your Browser.
