How do I make it put the text back in the search field and not in the address bar, I despise this new feature. Make it stop.

I did, but allow me to try and clarify for you. As users type to search, it appears in the address bar. Make that stop.

I think I understand it now. Enter about:config in the address bar and switch browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.improvesearch.handoffToAwesomebar to false.
