when i open firefox it runs in background but does not open. if i disable the internet connection immediately it opens. each and every time i do this when i start work. what kind of problem is this

i am using windows xp profession sp3 os when i open firefox it runs in background but does not open(see through task manager or one message "firefox is already running in background" when i again click the icon.) if i disable the internet connection, immediately it opens. each and every time i do this when i start work. what kind of problem is this

I had the same problem and it was because of my firewall settings, which I had set to block all activity and forgot to reset it.
