Just created a Firefox support account using my e-mail address as the username. Did not know that this would show up when I asked questions. Can I change my username? If not can I delete my account and start again.

Basically, without thinking, I used my e-mail address as my username, and I don't want to get spammed because of my thoughtlessness. Anyway, I'd like to change my username. I picked a display name "TonyG" and thought only that would display, but both my username and my display name show when I post. If I cannot change my username, I would like to start over by deleting this account and starting a new account. Any advice out there? Many thanks, in advance.

After you log in, go to:

Dashboard > Edit Profile

and change your user name.

Thanks for the quick response silkphoenix. When I click on edit profile, all fields show up except username. I can change my "Display name" there, but I don't see any way to change my username. I might be suffering from "refrigerator blindness" in that it might be right in front of me on the edit profile page, but for the life of me, I don't see it.

Forgot to mention, User name is the same as Display name.

What I mean is that when you log-in, you have to use your user name, but you can change your Display Name to anything you want, which will show in the forum. They are two different thing.

Thanks again for your response. I changed my display name to "TonyG"; however, when I log in, I still see my e-mail address, my username, showing up on my screen. Maybe the username only appears when I log in and others can only see my display name. Let me ask you this: For you, on your computer screen, does my name appear as "TonyG" to you, or, can you also see my e-mail address?

Sorry for the confusion about username and display name. You have to post a request to the administrators to change your username. Please see this thread:

Since you have used your old Display name, it'll always show your email address in the forum for this question. When you post another question in the future, it should show your Display name instead.

As I said, User Name is to be used to log into your forum account, the Display Name is what it'll be shown when you post in this forum. You can try to post a test in the forum to see if your Display Name is being shown or not.

If it's correct in the link that jscher2000 posted, then it's a big "misleading" in the Profile. Display Name to me is what it'll be displayed in the forum, User Name to me is what I'll use when I log-in. They do not and should not need to be the same.

I have never tried to change my Display Name, so I don't know if my solution will work or not. I guess you just have to try to see.

I agree with you, silkphoenix, that the display name, and not the username, should be displayed here in the Firefox support forums.

And, thanks jscher2000. I have posted a request on the contributors forum page. Hopefully that will work.

It's a broken privacy thing. Needs a quick fix. Defeats the purpose of a display name :(
