Since I upgraded to the newer version of Firefox, I no longer get website specific icons next to my bookmarks.

With past versions of Firefox, when I bookmarked a website, it usually provided an icon in the bookmark list specific to that website, eg, Netflix has a Netflix icon next to it. If the bookmark came with just a generic file icon, I would just right click, choose properties, and there was a small box to click on, which would then download an icon from that website, I presume, to replace the generic file icon. At some point after downloading several Firefox upgrades, when I bookmark a site, I never get a site specific icon, and the small box in the properties dialog no longer exists. My old icons are still there, in the bookmark list but I cannot get any new ones. It's probably something really simple, but I am baffled. Please help. Thank you.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.

  • You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Deselect: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"

The Browser is set to "Use Custom Settings for History", so unfortunately I am still in the dark.
