In order to watch dish online it asks to download the dish video optimizer...when we try to download it Firefox says widevine media transformer plugin could not be installed because it is not compatible with Firefox 7.0.1. We would like to be able to watch videos from dish occasionally. Thank you

That XPI has a maxVersion of 6, it needs to be updated for Firefox 7.

You could save that extension to disk, and open it to bump the maxVersion yourself if you feel adventurous.

If you don't already have it, download and install the 7-Zip program - it is a file archive utility manager program for Windows - free & open source.
http://www.7-zip.org/
Once 7-Zip is installed, right-click the XPI file and select Open with > 7-Zip File Manager

Once you see the contents of that XPI, locate the install.rdf file.
Right-click the install.rdf file and select Edit & your text editor will open. Locate the em:maxVersion ine and edit to read 7.0.* . Then use File > Save as... in your text editor and 7-Zip will ask you if you want to save the changes to the archive - don't use any compression if you are asked about that.

To install en extension which you have on local disk, you can use File > Open File... or simply drag the XPI into the Firefox browser window.

You will need to test that extension to make sure it actually still works in Firefox 7.

Do you have a download link for that plugin?
The plugin installer might need to be updated.

the-edmeister......here is the info you requested:

Here is the website to download the plugin: http://www.dishonline.com/home/widevine

When I click on "Windows Firefox: Download", it goes to: http://www.dishonline.com/widevine/installer/WidevineMediaTransformer_windows.xpi

Is this something that Firefox can fix or do we need to go to Dish Network to fix?

I tried it again and still says it is not compatible with Firefox 7.0.1. But thank you for trying!

This is why I'm losing my patience with Firefox. Every few weeks there's another update; which usually auto installs without asking permission. Then I have to go around and find and fix those things that worked in the previous version. Can't you guys do like Apple does and notify us that there's an update, tell us what the changes are and let us decide whether or not we can download and use it? Until this is fixed, I have gone back to version 6.0 and will stay there (unless it auto updates) until you guys get a better way to communicate. If nothing happens, I will go look for another browser...not IE...maybe Chrome or some other.
