Hi, I run Firefox 16.0.1 - I was installing a program from the net and it seems that other site installed a program under a folder named Hi Players, the program is called hao123, the program hijacks my yahoo mail home page and starts automatically when I close Firefox and re-open, when it opens hao123 page appears, and when I press the home page icon it goes to my home page. I tried uninstalling, deleting, cleaning registry, even installed ashampoo optimizer to try to remove this program but failed. Kindly help knowing that I am not a computer expert.

Hi elmasry2

try the SearchReset add-on and check it again (the add-on it backs up and then resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself)

thank you

Hi ideato

Tried SearchReset add-on, the problem remains unsolved, after closing and restarting Firefox it starts with the same page hao123, and when pressing the homepage icon it goes to Firefox homepage.

Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs. You need to use all programs because each detects different malware. Make sure to update each program to get the latest version before doing a scan.

check also for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

Hi elmasry2,

try this :

1. Right-click on your Mozilla Firefox icon on your desktop

2. Select "Properties"

3. See the value in "Target" property. It should be only "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"

4. If you see the hao123 thing appended to the firefox.exe string like "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"https://hao.123.com" or something like that DELETE IT and keep only the "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"

5. Click OK to save it, exit Firefox and restart it.

also check if you have any extension or add-on installed by hao from Firefox button > click Add-ons > extensions, if you have DELETE IT.

thanks

Hi ideato,

Yes, the step of removing the hao123 extension from the icons shortcut is the correct solution. Many thanks
