java plugin 1.7.0_45 misdetection as 1.7.0_17
I've installed 1.7.0_45 java (JRE) package, downloaded from java.com, at http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=81810 MD5sum: 7fa0cf09846e96b367526c95f33bb278 jre-7u45-linux-i586.tar.gz
I enabled the plugin symlinking the file jre/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins directory Firefox (about:plugins) says I have java plugin 1.7.0_17 (vulnerable) and I have to update it. Tools->Add-ons->Plugins says the same.
If I check my java version using http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp it says: "Congratulations! You have the recommended Java installed (Version 7 Update 45)."
I'm puzzled. Can you help me?

I'm not familiar with your platform, but on Windows... Firefox maintains a data file of currently installed plugins. That file sometimes can become corrupt. If you rename or delete it, Firefox will redetect your plugins and regenerate it.
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Open Directory" button
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename pluginreg.dat to something like pluginreg.old
Restart Firefox. Does about:plugins show the newer version?
If not, check the path listed on the about:plugins page and see whether there is some kind of conflict or duplication in your symlinks or physical files.

You were right, renaming pluginreg.dat solved it!
Now about:plugins shows a completely different version of the plugin: "Next Generation Java Plug-in 10.45.2 for Mozilla browsers", instead of 1.7.0_XX, but I suppose that's normal. The plugin works and it's no longer detected as "vulnerable". java.com test page sees "version 7 release 45" like before.
Thanks a lot!
