It is said in the support pages that the option "Privacy>never remember history" is equivalent to private browsing. It also said that having private browsing enabled means not storing history nor passwords.

So, how are related the options: "Privacy>never remember history", "Privacy>User custom settings>Permanent private browsing" and "Security>Remember passwords"?

1) if I enable "Privacy>never remember history" does this implies also that passwords are not stored?

2) If I enable instead "Privacy>User custom settings>Permanent private browsing" does this still implies that passwords are not stored?

3) if 1) or 2) are set, what is the role of the to apparently independent option "Security>Remember passwords"?

I'm sorry but logic of the user interface is not really crystal-clear to me

Thanks for your help.

1. Yes. Setting "Firefox will: Never remember history" prompts you to restart Firefox, after which "Always use private browsing mode" will be checked. The "Remember passwords for sites" option will be unchecked and unavailable (grayed out).

2. Yes. It's the same thing.

3. Like I said, in that case the "Remember passwords for sites" option would be unavailable (grayed out). The rest of the time, that option allows you to disable saving passwords when not in private browsing mode.
