This is a request for developers.

When replying to an email and including the incoming email in the reply - The only options given by Thunderbird are colorful vertical lines |, or just the text.

I'm used to and would like to have the option to use the > which I've seen in other apps. (I had used it for years in old software.)

My opinion is that the > is neater and easier to navigate then the vertical lines. And I don't like the color of the |. It gets very distracting.

I hope this request can be seen by developers. Thanks.

I have changed my passwords on 2 gmail accounts I import to TB. Usually when you do that and TB retrieves email from gmail, you get a credential popup because the password doesn't match. Usually when you get that popup you click "next" and put the new password in and everything works as it should. I have been messing with this for 2 days now. I get the gmail credential popup, but when I click "next" to continue, I then get an error 400 from google? You can't do anything else after that. That darn popup just keeps coming and coming every time TB tries to retrieve email. Anyone else having this issue and found how to fix it? Is it a TB issue or gmail/google issue?

This is not a question. It is a statement of issues. I recently bought a new computer and tried to install Thunderbird on my new system. The installation went fine. The setup was one problem after another. Thunderbird required multiple attempts to connect with Outlook and sync my account. Next, I tried to import my contacts. Thunderbird failed numerous attempts to sync contacts. I finally had to manually import my contacts. Then spent an hour manually cleaning up my contacts. Thunderbird seems to have randomly assigned field names. (Names imported as numbers or dates) In addition, it imported contacts without associated data. (No email address, phone numbers etc.) After all that, Thunderbird would not allow me to use any of the contacts. The address book is there, the contacts are there, but it would not reference the address book when I tried to send an email. I had to go to the address book, copy the email and paste it into the to: field.

Next, I tried to create events and tasks. First problem, all calendars were disabled by default and no option was offered to enable the calendars. I spent another 45 min. trying to find a setting or something to enable the calendars. When I finally got them enabled, I spent another hour trying to get Thunderbird to create events and tasks. Thunderbird will not create either. I spent far more time than is rational to create each event and task. When I completed each attempt, Thunderbird trashed them. No event or task was ever created. At this point I uninstalled Thunderbird and wrote it off as a bad idea.

Folks, I am not new to this. I have been using similar apps since their early days. I know how to install and setup these apps. I am very familiar with the problems that may be encountered. And this far worse than anything I have seen in a long time. I do not know what is going on at Mozilla, but they have got some serious problems to work out. I will steer clear of Thunderbird for now.

Get Messages doesn't work anymore. I created another profile with the same email address and it works fine. The issue is that I lost all my info, addresses, and most importantly the Calendar. I've been messing around with this all in trying to import that info into the new profile, but failing. I copied calendar-data to the new profile, but it doesn't show up. Can someone please help! Dear Team After Updating from 102.15.1 (32Bit) to 115.28.0 (32Bit) I can not connect to the provider "pop.hispeed.ch" anymore. Ping pop.hispeed.ch (on CMD) shows normal raction of beeing reachable with a "reply from xxxx.". I am on Windows 7 SP1. I have checked several times all setting POP and SMTP, switched off Firewall, uninstalled virus scanner, and and and many more (all knowledge found on internet..). Pressing the "Get Message" button in the upper menue bar shows no raction when pressed. The icon "Get Message" on the left side of the button "+ New Message" results in a none moving blue status bar at the right bottom of the window. After a while with the message "timed out.. ".In the settings "Config Editor.." the values of "mailnews.tcptimeout" are set to "300", and "true". I am using TB since donkey years with many many eMails. Are the lost? I am receiving legitimate invoices from about 6 different suppliers. On my email inbox they are all listed as coming from the same person (who is one of the 6 suppliers I have used.) The only common thing I can see is that they all appears to be using the same accounting software. Is there a setting somewhere - perhaps I have ticked a box accidentally - that causes this to happen? How can I change it so that the legitimate sender is named on the inbox list?

Hello, I recently updated Thunderbird to version 136 on my Linux system (Solus with Budgie desktop), and I noticed that a native tray icon now appears in my system tray. This was not the case with previous versions, where Thunderbird would run without placing an icon in the tray. The issue is that Thunderbird now shows an icon in the system tray, and I would like to disable it. I have already tried the following methods:

1. Editing the prefs.js file to set: `user_pref("mail.ui.showTrayIcon", false);` But this did not remove the icon.

2. Checking Thunderbird's settings for any option to disable the tray icon, but I could not find anything that addresses this behavior.

3. I have also checked the system tray settings in the Budgie desktop, but the icon still persists.

Is there any way to completely remove this tray icon in version 136? Is this a known issue with this release?

Any help would be appreciated!

Running TB 136 on my new Macbook, I transfer my old profile from TB running 128, I use IMAP. The first thing that I noted was emails in my Drafts, Sent, and Spam folders did not transfer, and the Template Folder is missing. I did the transfer by moving a copy of my TB profile to the new install. How do I get the missing emails and the Template folder?

When reading an email message, if I highlight text in within the message, and then right-click, I get a pop-up menu that includes options such as:

  Copy
  Select All
  Search Google for <selected text>
  Open
  Reply
  etc, etc, etc...

Is there any config file for this menu that can be edited? I would like to add additional items in the same section as the "Search Google for", to use other search URLS and also include the <selected text> portion. If this was in a config file somewhere, it seems I could just duplicate the line & change the URL. This would allow me to be much more efficient ...

Hi, I'm a Thunderbird user (& monthly supporter) and have recently been experiencing repeated prompts to enter my user id and password credentials while using the app even though it launches and functions normally. I use Thunderbird for both a Yahoo and gmail account and both are working fine. So, it's more of an annoyance than anything, but I get pop-up screens with the same prompt every few minutes. (just had one now. . . .) What do you think? Thanks in advance for your help!

Loss of data is always a bear and the 'procedures to recover lost emails' don't always work as designed

The first concern is emails I save in local folders with topic labels.... they are saved for documentation purposes and to be able to refer to them without saving them in the account 'new' mail folder.

The second concern is the 'address book'

Now, the big one - How can I save these 2 items in an automatic backup drive? I have a thumb drive and have downloaded their program and instructions. The BIG question is what files do I identify to be backed up every time something changes - the original email file, new emails, the original address book file and every time an entry is changed in some way ?

Big thanks - a solution can save lots of money at drug stores!

I have lost years of folders for one of my accounts. I know the path of C:\Users\kturl\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles, and have clicked on all the folders there to set up the path to the history. And a related issues, I can only see the Inbox for the account. Is there a phone number for help or can someone help me? This has been going on for now 4 months. Thank you.

I have a substantial number of email that are successfully recognized and moved to the Junk folder. However, a few arrive with the spam flame column set that remain in the inbox. But for some reason the Junk button in the header pane is greyed out. If I clear the spam column, the Junk button is enabled. Shouldn't the Junk button work when the spam column is enabled?

Also, I want to determine if the mail server has moved a message to junk or Thunderbird has done it. I can think of not starting Thunderbird and checking web mail status and see what's in the junk folder. Is that the only way?
