I've recently started using Tab Groups and they're always there when I need them, even if I restart Firefox or my computer, but I ran CCleaner yesterday and now the groups have all disappeared. Is there a way to stop this from happening?

Pinned (App) tabs and Tab groups are stored in the sessionstore.js file as part of session date, so you would have to at least exclude the Sessions. It is always best to use built-in means to clean up your personal data and not external programs to avoid corruption of files in the Firefox profile folder. Future Firefox versions may use different files to store data or a different scheme that can easily get corrupted.

Don't let CCleaner mess with your Firefox profile. Uncheck all cleaning options in CCleaner which are related to Firefox.

Not sure I should uncheck all. There's obviously some good use for the functions of CCleaner.

The options currently checked by default are:

  • Internet Cache
  • Internet History
  • Cookies
  • Download History
  • Session

Which one of these controls the Tab Groups?

Cache and history.

Overall, it is best not to allow CCleaner to touch any Firefox files. We have had too many reports about CCleaner causing a multitude of problems with Firefox over the past couple of years.

Thanks. Done it with Sessions unchecked in CCleaner.

I came to the thread with the same question.

I've used 'cleaner for years without any difficulty with FF afterwards other than the need to clear my 'group tab's page before running 'cleaner or accept losing all my tabs. I understand 'support's' need to warn against use of 'external programs' though. When checking my 'cleaner's menu (see image), I can't find a 'Sessions' check-box... what box must I check or uncheck to be able to run 'cleaner as often as I'd like but not lose my tabs?

Any help will be appreciated.

Marshalldoc,

You're on the Windows tab which only shows Internet Explorer's options. Click on the Applications tab and you'll see options for Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, including the Session check box.

Oh.... duh?

Thanks Tony. I did find it exactly as you said I would.

Unfortunately, I can't test it just yet as I've repopulated my 'group tabs' page and it'll be some days or more before I've cleared it again and can put some unimportant tabs on it (which I can lose without prejudice) to test with. I'll update as I have results.

Again, thanks... I was tempted to add 'Oh, I knew that...", but I didn't.
