When I click on the any link from the emails I received, it just doesn't do anything. It used to go and open firefox or if it is already open will open a new tab and go the website of the link.

When I make the Internet explorer as the default, it works.

Thanks mate, not sure what else should I write.

A few more minutes searching, and I found a more definite answer. Apparently, an update in Outlook 2010 makes it incompatible with Mozilla Firefox. The only way to fix it is to make IE the default browser, or hope this fix works: http://www.pcworld.com/article/200103/Fix_Outlook_General_Failure_Error_for_EMail_Links.html

This is the same fix from the archived thread, and is the same fix that keeps popping up across the internet. Good luck.

Where are you when you click on the email link? Are you in a program like Thunderbird, an app like Windows Mail (8.1), or a browser? Is Mozilla Firefox the default browser?

My email is from microsoft outlook and yes I have always used Firefox as the default browser.

Where are you accessing Microsoft Outlook? In a browser, app, program, etc...

It is from microsoft outlook program, I guess like I open my outlook to access my emails (which are downloaded automatically from my gmail account - too much information and useless?). Thanks for staying on mate.

It looks like this problem has been around for quite some time, all the way back to version 3 of FF! Here's an archived thread with a few solutions that worked. Maybe one of these will help: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/773937

Hey it works. Not sure if it was the first link you sent or the 2nd one or both (?).

Thank you very much for all your helps mate.

You're welcome! Glad it works! (the link to pcworld's article was in the old thread, so it was the same link in both posts)

Hi there,

I am back again, the same problem has come back - "I can't activate the link in my email when using the firefox as default browser. Does this mean the only way I can fix it is to make the IE as my default driver or does anyone have another solution. PS: I tried to do what I did a couple of days ago (which solved the problem then) but now didn't seem to fix it - weird.

Unfortunately, because of Microsoft Outlook's programming, the only way to fix this is to set IE as the default browser.

If you like, you can try Mozilla Thunderbird. It's an email client similar to Outlook, but it's a lot more customizable. There's even an extension to open links in the program without a web browser!

That's what I gathered, thanks anyway for replying and confirming to me, mate. It still puzzled me why it worked last time though :-). Consider it closed..
