A couple of recent downloads, which I have now deleted from the download list, keep asking to download a minute or two after Firefox is started up. This is the window:

"You have chosen to open:

  MSetup.exe
which is a binary file (18.9 MB)
    from: http://download.microsoft.com

Would you like to save this file?

                         Save File Cancel"

Why is this happening? How do I prevent it? Or is it a bug?

You can check the downloads folder in the History Manager or the about:downloads page to see if you can locate unfinished downloads and remove them. Note that entries may show more than once, so check the full list.

You can also check the home page setting to be sure that you haven't set multiple home pages.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

The downloads had already been done - there was no need to do it again. I tried "about:downloads". Only one of them was there so I deleted it. The other wasn't listed so it couldn't have been that. I tried places-maintenance and that didn't solve it. I closed the Microsoft pages from which the downloads originally came - and that solved it. But Thanks, anyway.
