As far as I'm aware:

Printing an email means printing as it is created. Headers are considered part of the email just like an address at the top of a letter.

Options are:

  • print full headers and content
  • print normal headers and content

The above is determined by this setting: View > Headers > Normal or All

  • print only content

Select email and highlight all the content then select 'File' > 'Print Preview'

To achieve selective editing: Right click on email in list and select 'Save as' Choose where to save and save the file as a text file. then open that saved file using eg: Wordpad This would allow you to edit any section then use Print Preview / print.

This add-on might.... it does everything else https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/printingtools/

Having said that the name is the display name linked to the email address, and is usually included in the email as a single value. that is if you go to Ctrl+U to see the source of an email the sender/ recipient will be shown in the format ZDNet Announcements <newsletters@zdnet.online.com> as a single string

Just had a look at that addon. It allows you to not print any headers, just content, but it does not allow actual editing of any section.

What may be of use is the ability to truncate the header, but that would effect all headers. So you could test this option to manipulate the amount of characters it truncates to.
