what the hell is an uncovered method?
You web site explaining why Firefox does a crap job of blocking popups says that Firefox doesnt do crap if an "uncovered method" is used. What the hell is an uncovered method. I have a degree in computer science and 40 years experience, so I can think of several things that MIGHT mean, but none of them sound like a proper excuse for Firefox not being able to police its own (what should be single low-level) call to "open new OS window" that all browser APIs invoke?
So, what do YOU mean on your documentation/help by "uncovered method" and why don't you just say "we are lazy"?

hello, what kind of documentation are you referring to? please provide a link...
i'm no expert in the matter either, but i suppose this refers to "non-traditional" forms of popups like roll-overs by flash content or other plugins, also malware that's active locally on the device triggering ads and popups,...
I have all plug-ins / extensions disabled, and these are separate operating system windows controlled by the browser (as opposed to just a floating div on the original page/tab/window), and I have no recognized malware detected (and never do because this has been going on forever with firefox and is less of a problem with chrome and safari).
- I* can guess at several things too, but I want to know (a) what *Mozilla* means by that, and (b) why that is supposed to get them off the hook.
does it happen when you visit a particular website only or on different occasions?
Thanks for the post. This is a good question. We have just amended the article to mention the modal popups that Mozilla uses on these support pages.
There are two issues here.
- Your current support question about popups you see - More details may help.
- We should improve the article - Probably better discussed separately.
What are the popups that you are seeing ? Please can you let us have screenshots and any other detail that would help us to identify the popups and their source.
The note in the article is obviously not very good. I have added an escalate tag to this question, lets see if the professional Helpdesk staff can enlighten us as to what the popups blocker does and does not deal with, as well as helping with your popups.
I think we should change the note in the article. We will need to keep any explanation suitable for the general user of Firefox, but that is not an excuse for including such a note. Let's wait for the Helpdesk response, thats likely to be next week sometime.
This happens on multiple web sites/pages. Some more constantly than others. For easy-to-replicate examples... https://kat.cr/tv/?field=leechers&sorder=desc ...OR... https://eztv.ag/ Clicking on the magnet icons, for example, usually launches a popup window (as a side-effect of the actual action of that link) within 1 to 4 clicks.
As can be seen by my uploaded images, a window is created/loaded, typically behind the main window (and often sized to be smaller, so completely obscured). A second uploaded image shows the popup window unobscured.

Also, I guess a second complaint about Mozilla is the fact that these windows are created as windows instead of as new tabs, which is what I configured Firefox to (supposedly) do.
