I will try that as soon as possible, thank you. I am still having intermittent issues still with Internet Explorer acting up. I just wonder how for so long that I've been safely using Freecorder would all of a sudden my top 2 browsers turn inside out...

If I have any software on my computer, that should not interfere with a browser or keep it from working unless its foreign malware. Besides, I only used Freecorder on IE anyway. Hopefully this trend doesn't continue or I'd have to switch off to another browser.

Also, I wanted to mention that ever since I started using Mozilla Firefox it would not prevent pop-ups from being blocked. If one was triggered, it would still open instead of being blocked. Unsafe..

I think a recent Norton update might have changed what happens when the Freecorder DLL injects itself into Firefox, but I haven't tried to research it in detail.

If you prefer not to, or are not able to uninstall your Applian software (Freecorder or Replay Media Catcher), a few other users said using the msconfig program to prevent FlvSrvc.exe from running at startup bypassed the problem. The triggering is the thing: there is a setting you can adjust in about:config if you do not agree that some of these user-generated events should be allowed to trigger a pop-up window:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste popup and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the dom.popup_allowed_events preference and edit out the actions you do not want to generate a new window, making sure to keep a space between events that you keep. I suggest keeping click at least:

change click dblclick mouseup reset submit touchend

Note: change, reset, and submit relate to forms. mouseup occur when you lift your finger off a mouse button that you had pressed down. I think touchend is the equivalent for your finger if you have a touchscreen.

Note: if this gets messed up, right-click the preference and choose Reset, and then you can start editing again.

I don't mean to knock any moderator's advice or suggestions, but there are several details that point towards Norton Anti-Virus as a possible contributor to the symptoms here. Initial attempts to use Hunter function of Revo Uninstall was unsuccessful but I will try again later and tomorrow. What I originally did was copy and paste the program files where they could be used on my laptop; no install hence no uninstall. If that fix does not work on my second attempt I will try your suggestion, jscher2000. I believe that is where the answer lies, with Norton, so if someone could look deeper into the details at least we could leave no crab unturned on the beach. So to speak. Thanks much.

To my joy, after carefully modifying the MSConfig - Startup - Applian Technologies, Inc. FLVSrvc(.exe) I immediately restarted my laptop as prompted and then Mozilla Firefox began working. In order to offer and provide additional information, please advise steps to run any tests so that you guys can gather the details you can use.

Not to my surprise, as soon as I opened Firefox I got a new tab regarding Norton that may prove what the smoking gun was. Keep in mind I have never installed any toolbars on either of my browsers. The information is as follows, for reference:

Update:

When running FCVideo and then trying to open Firefox the browser begins crashing all over again. Before going further I checked MSConfig again, and found that a new Applian Technologies, Inc. FLVSrvc(.exe) had appeared and was checked. Despite unchecking it during the same laptop session, I anticipate it would take another restart for that to work. If need be, I wouldn't mind reaming whichever developer caused this mess in the first place to be honest. Also, my Internet Explorer still acts up too by frequently closing tabs prompting that those tabs stopped working...

The Firefox developers are still trying to figure out whether there is anything Mozilla can do to prevent this three-way conflict. I don't know whether Applian or Norton is looking at it.

For now, it seems you can only run two of the three programs at the same time.

I much appreciate your reassuring response despite the fact that I had marked your fix suggestion as having resolved my issue. Though, only temporarily as we both understand it. I also noticed that after doing your MSConfig fix, I was once again able to save image files from Internet Explorer. Coincidence?

If I had to venture which party seems like the most likely culprit, it would be Norton. How else could two major browsers experience considerable malfunctions, the greater being with Firefox, when the data clearly indicates a link to Norton Anti-Virus. There is scarcely another way that up until last month, my copy of Freecorder operated on a daily basis for the last several years had not had any problems till now. I just hope that whomever is to blame, that party gets notified, issues a patch or fix, and or that Mozilla issues a more permanent fix.

You and the other moderators have done a good job of helping me out with this issue, and I would like to take the time to say thank you. If you could, make sure this thread is marked for follow-up should a fix be made down the road.
