I have both a Sent folder and a SENT ITEMS folder. Sometimes a sent message goes to one and sometimes to the other. Why are both folders there, and when does a sent message go to one rather than the other? Thanks, Jay Devore, jdevore@calpoly.edu

What I can think of: One Sent folder is 'provided' by your email provider as part of their server setup. It's used when you use webmail to send a message. The other is created by Thunderbird. When you send a message with Thunderbird, a copy of the sent message goes there. I can't tell which one is which though.

Can you post a screenshot of your folder pane with the two Sent folders visible as well as the account(s)? http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-create-screenshot-my-problem

Here is a screenshot of my Thunderbird folders. You can see both a Sent folder and a SENT ITEMS folder. How are they different, and why does a sent message go to one rather than the other? Thanks, Jay Devore, jdevore@calpoly.edu

That appears to be correct. I just sent two test messages, one via my laptop that uses Thunderbird and the other via my iPhone. Sure enough, the messages were placed in two different Sent folders --Sent for Thunderbird and Sent Items for the other message. Thanks!
