I have had a problem on all my computers for the last two weeks playing Kol Israel (http://www.iba.org.il) This website uses a pop-up player and Adobe Flash. I have updated to the latest Adobe flash player and Firefox and nothing helps. The same problem exists with Explorer but not Opera. The Mozilla FAQs are absolutely useless for Windows 10. Can anyone help with this problem?

If you have problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions then check this:

  • see if there are updates for your graphics drivers

https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)

https://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround

  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) that can block content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Flash Block, Ghostery) then make sure such extensions do not block content. There is security software that can interfere with loading content, so check that as well.

My graphics drivers are up to date on both my computers. As I said, my flash player is also up to date. The Adobe links are to obsolete versions of Flash so none of these fixes apply to the latest version or to Windows 10. I don't think that Flash is the problem as I can't seem to get the popup at all. Flash works for all other streaming sites I use but those use embedded players. I tried contacting Kol Israel but I can't get any reply. Has anyone else tried to reproduce this problem?

I already tried disabling the popup blocker, adaware and anything else that might be blocking the site. Kol Israel worked well with these enabled and with the Mozilla popup blocker set to accept Kol Israel until two weeks ago. Something changed either with Mozilla or with JWplayer perhaps that caused my problem. Is anyone else having this pproblem with other streaming radio sites?

Does it work if you start Firefox in Safe Mode?

Try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if that works.

  • Windows: hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox
  • Mac: hold down the Options key while starting Firefox

Do you at least see the Flash media player?

I tried that (hadn't thought about it) but I can't get the popup player under Safe Mode either.

For some reason, Firefox and Kol Israel started working on my older other computer yesterday (also upgraded to Windows 10. I then tried Internet Explorer on my main computer and I do get the popup player after two weeks of not working. It appears as if the only browser that doesn't work at the moment is Firefox on my main computer.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove the cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Clear the cache":

  • Firefox/Options/Preferences -> Advanced -> Network -> Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems.

  • Firefox/Options/Preferences -> Privacy -> "Use custom settings for history" -> Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Thanks that was partly helpful. I now get the popup after clearing the cache but the popup says "Error: no playable sources available" I checked my add-ins and the Flash player seems to have disappeared. I will try and restart and reload the flash player.

It is possible that clearing cookies has caused the website to switch to the HTML5 media player.

You can check via the right-click context menu of the player area what kind of media player is used. A Flash based player shows a context menu with the Flash version.

It is possible. By clicking on the player popup in IE and Opera, I get "about Adobe Flash Player version 22,0,0,192" but there is no player in Firefox due to the error message. In the add-ons and extensions menu for Firefox, Flash Player has disappeared.

You can check the log in the Web Console for error messages.

If necessary use Ctrl+F5 or Ctrl+Shift+R to reload the page and bypass the cache to generate a fresh log.

OK, with the web developer on, here's what I get when I go to Kol Israel. The popup doesn't work either:

I finally solved this problem by refreshing Firefox. This preserved my bookmarks but I had to rearrange the toolbars the way i like them, turn off automatic updates and change the download folder to where I keep all my downloads. Support from Mozilla itself was minimal - thanks for nothing.

No, that didn't solve the problem. After refreshing and arranging toolbars and downloads the way I like, the player worked one time and then came back just as bad as ever. I invoked the Final Solution and went to Chrome. Ta-ta Firefox.
