I've tried going to Options, under Advanced and the box for "Search for text when I start typing" is unchecked. I've also tried adding "extensions.searchhotkeys.disable_all" to my preferences in about:config (maybe I'm doing this wrong).

The quick search is extremely annoying when I'm trying to practice 10 finger typing on all rows, and have to turn it off every time I hit /

You would have to install the searchhotkeys extension.
