How to remove 'Mobile Bookmarks' new option in FF54 (simple please).
Updated from 53 to 54 & I get a new 'unwanted' Mobile Bookmarks option in my bookmarks. I don't have a mobile or tablet or laptop - just the 1 (one) single (get it??) computer - why would I like to 'sync' to a mobile device. How the hell do I remove this unwanted option - I've managed without it for a number of years and got used to what options are available and now another arrives. Please explain in simple terms how I can remove this. I've presently rolled back to 53 & the option has gone - so what made it magically appear - some programmer somewhere thought - ah I've got nothing better to do this week - I'll add a new bookmarker for mobile devices - maybe to EVERYONE - including those THAT DON'T NEED TO SYNC ANYTHING>. I've actually stopped updates for the moment but am willing to let 54 come back if someone will advise me how to remove this unwanted option.

You can hide that item using a custom style rule. I don't know if there is another way to do it.
Recent thread about that option: how do I delete the mobile bookmarks folder?
I think that Firefox shows this folder automatically if you use Sync to sync bookmarks (this sets browser.bookmarks.showMobileBookmarks).
If you do not really need to use Sync to sync data like the bookmarks to other devices, but merely want to use it to backup data then note that Sync isn't designed to be used for backup.
For backup it is always best to backup your personal data yourself locally.
I had not noticed the preference cor-el mentioned. You could try this:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste bookm and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the browser.bookmarks.showMobileBookmarks preference to switch the value from true to false
I've seen reports that setting the pref to false is not permanent. Once Firefox will sync again or at least on the next start then the folder is likely to reappear. I don't know if setting the pref to false via a user.js file would work.
"You can hide that item using a custom style rule." I don't want to hide it - I want to DELETE it.
"I think that Firefox shows this folder automatically if you use Sync to sync bookmarks" I don't use Sync - I don't have ANY mobile devices.
"Double-click the browser.bookmarks.showMobileBookmarks preference to switch the value from true to false" and "I've seen reports that setting the pref to false is not permanent."
Neither of these are particularly helpful.
NOTE: 1. I don't have a mobile device - therefore I DON'T NEED TO SYNC..... 2. This suddenly appeared after updating from 53 to 54 - thus I would hazard a guess that something has either 'GONE WRONG' and everyone is now getting that stupid Mobile Bookmarks option - OR something specific has happened to my account that has enabled that option. Either way I would like some assistance with removing it.
If YOU wanted to remove the option - what would YOU do - I've gone into my FF account and unclicked the sync options but it still remains - what else can I do. I don't want to sync anything and am not using it for backup - I just want it GONE.
The question is tagged with a Sync label.
I do not think that Firefox would show the Mobile Bookmarks folder unless either Sync is used or somehow the browser.bookmarks.showMobileBookmarks pref got set to true.
Did you check browser.bookmarks.showMobileBookmarks on the about:config page and set this pref to false if it is currently set to true?
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
OK - changed the browser.bookmarks.showMobileBookmarks to false and the option has disappeared from the bookmarks list. My questions are: 1. This preference wasn't in version 53 (I checked before updating to 54) 2. Since I don't use Sync why was it set ON after 54 updated.
3. It better not come back again or I shall be really cross.
Thanks
