I think that Firefox Quantum does not help me to protect my children!

Thoses are essentials parental control features which don't find anywhere in firefox Quantum (57 and +) -Disable Private Browsing menu option and keyboard shortcut. (Password protected). -Disable deletion of browsing history. (Password protected). -Disable the "disabling" or removal of any installed add-ons (WebExtensions). (Password protected).

ALL of the extension that helped me to activate those features are Not compatible with Firefox Quantum : -Disable Private Browsing Plus by RichieB2B. -Public Fox by publicfox.

Firefox please help us protect our children! Those Feature should be included natively in Firefox !

I don't want my kids to be able to disable my Parental Control Add-ons like: -Enforce Safe Search / Adult Content Filter -ProCon Latte Content Filter by Hunter Paolini (Another problem! This one is Not compatible with Firefox Quantum!)

I feel that Firefox Quantum does not care about the safety of our children. Please help us! Please let our children live their childhood!

Trying to enforce parental controls at the browser level is not the most effective way to do so. There are multiple ways children can work around this:

  • start Firefox in safe mode (which is as easy as holding down the shift key when you double-click Firefox) which disabled all add-ons
  • Creating a new Firefox profile, which has no add-ons
  • Creating a new OS profile, which has no add-ons
  • Installing another browser, which has no add-ons
  • Multiple other ways

If you would like to truly have parental controls, you need to either install an OS-level program that monitors all browsers on the computer and can't be removed, or better yet, install software on your router (usually through DNS) that monitors your entire network.

Using browser add-ons is futile.

I disagree.

Nothing I futile. I have opendns set in my router. It is part of a multi-levels protection that I have built.

Thoses are OTHERS essentials parental control features which don't find anywhere in firefox Quantum (57 and +) :

-DISABLE starting Firefox in safe mode (DISABLE holding down the shift key when you double-click Firefox)

-DISABLE creating a new Firefox profile.

Please also add them to firefox.

My children does not have the OS wrights to create a new OS profile. My children does not have the OS wrights to install another browser.

Open DNS is not enough because for exemple the kids can use an image search engine et see undesired thumnails. Same thing for videos.

I have at least 7 levels of protection on my computer and my children were NEVER able to see those ugly images. Please do not tell me that every thing I did to protect them is futile.

The only thing here which is futile is "firefox Quantum". Because it broke many of thoses levels of protection.

Thank you for helping us.

PS: Do you have children?

You can't disable Firefox safe mode or creating a new profile. Even if you could, you can simply delete the profile folder and Firefox will automatically create a new one. What you are asking will fundamentally break Firefox and isn't possible.

I'd suggest you focus on less easily worked around and more effective levels of parental controls

Mozilla, your are contradicting yourself:

"Technology companies need to develop proactive, pro-user cybersecurity technology solutions. We must invest in creating a secure platform. That means supporting things like adopting and standardizing secure protocols, BUILDING FEATURES THAT IMPROVE SECURITY, and empowering users with education and BETTER TOOLS FOR THEIR SECURITY."

SOURCE: https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2016/09/13/cybersecurity-is-a-shared-responsibility/

Here we are talking about the SECURITY of our children. In most countries of the world, showing porn to children IS ILLEGAL. Firefox is contributing the problem by doing NOTHING. Firefox is illegal.

I understand your concern for your children, however browsers are not breaking any laws.

Mozilla's concern with security is a concern of protecting your privacy and personal information. Parental controls does not fall under that.

You can't find any browser in the world that does what you are asking. There are multiple products however that are built for exactly your use case, so I'd urge you to check them out

I ve already checked them out: as I said, I have at least 7 (seven) layers of security, starting from opendns configured directly in my router.

It is a great occasion for firefox to be the first offering thoses feature. From the day I ve been upgraded to Firefox Quantum I see those problems everyday: For example, two days ago, my daughter who have a very "shy" hamster decided to find some video to help her pet to be less shy. We speak french at home so "shy" in french is "timide" (with an "e" at the end). She googled "hamster timide", then, in the results page she clicked "videos" (beside "all" and "images"). See the result for yourself. NONE of layers outside firefox prevented this. The only layers that blocked it before FF57, are gone. Stupid software like "Net Nanny" are completely useless for those scenarios. I have tested those software.

(I this case, she was not able go follow the links in the result page, but just with the videos thumbnails, the damage was done).

In FF56 and before, this never happenned I was able to disable Private Browsing menu option and keyboard shortcut, and Disable deletion of browsing history, with the extention "Disable Private Browsing" Plus by RichieB2B. This was usefull to periodically validate in the Firefox History of my child's account, that all my layers filters (including the extension Procon Latte) are working properly.

I have plenty of examples like this one. This happen to all the parents of the world everyday. It's a taboo, nobody dares to talk about it, for fear of being perceived as irresponsible.

My conclusion is that Firefox does not care about the safety of kids.

As I have said, I understand your concern, hut this isn't a feature any browser can provide without breaking the browser (and it would still be easily worked around). Just a tip, switching to google.fr would probably give more relevant results.

The fact of the matter is that children on the internet may see innaproriate things, and education is just as important as prevention. The parental control tools you were using before gave you a false sense of security, they are gone now, and it's probably best to look up some other features.

Thank you Tyler. I still do not agree with anything you said. But thank you for your fast and very polite answers. This is excellent Support.

I switched to Waterfox 56 until I find the best solution. Pale Moon will also be a solution because, now and in the future, it will not deprecate the extension mechanisms and APIs that are needed to truly extend browser features. This means that we can continue to use the browser extensions that provide us with the tools (like disabling UI controls) we have been using before Firefox Quantum broke all that by only allowing WebExtensions (that can only manipulate content, not browser features).
