Right now I use another browser on my Android tablet.

Say I would start to use Firefox for Android and let's assume that I use Firefox (desktop and Android) to store passwords in and also that both are in sync

Question 1: Will Firefox for Android then offer to fill login credentials?

Question 2: On desktop - there is a 'File->Exit' and so the passwords saved in Firefox are not accessible (when using a master password) how is that with Firefox for Android? Meaning to say: when closing and re-opening will it then automatically re-open / make available the stored password or will it prompt me to enter the master password?

Question 3: Is there a way of a 'full exit' on Android, closing all the open tabs, so Firefox will not start with opening a number of last used tabs?

Thanks

  1. Yes.
  2. If you're using the master password on desktop, passwords are not syncing. I'm not aware master pass on Android.
  3. Yes, but not by default. You have to set:
    • Options -> Advanced -> Restoring tabs -> Never
    • Options -> Privacy -> Clear data on exit -> Open tabs
    • And using Quit (or Exit) option (you should not quit using buttons).

Many thanks for your reply!

With '2.' I meant the following scenario: a. I have Firefox desktop open b. Firefox desktop, I have entered the master password (so passwords are accessible, I guess...) then, whilst FF for Desktop is open on 1 side,

c. I launch FF for Android on the other side and select sync

I suppose login credentials are then synchronized as both applications are open at the same time and desktop master pw has been entered?

Thanks for '3.' - those options are a bit 'hidden' ...

Currently there are no good browser password add-ons for Android. I don't know why. On Windows the common password managers offer good working add-ons for the major browsers. I use Roboform, works really perfectly. They (and also some others) have their own browser for Android, but obviously it has very limited options. For that reason using passwords managed by the browser is a fair alternative. I don't use my tablet for any payment services.

Some say that passwords managed by browsers are not secure, but I have not found any decent technical review on that.

BTW... I do not see an 'Exit' or 'Quit' menu option with me (FF v58 on Android). The '3-dots list' ends up with ... ... Tools Settings Help

Being different from the screenshot on following Firefox support site:

Quit or exit Firefox for Android

How does it look like at your end?

Did you set anything on Options -> Privacy -> Clear data on exit -> ?

Yes, that went fine, thanks! Really, I would have found it myself . . .

I am not sure about the use of Master Password on Android though. (bearing in mind synchronizing).

The Master Password provides the ability to keep your browser secure and even with use of it sync should occur naturally and shouldn't be negatively affected by it. as long as you have them setup they should function naturally.

[Off topic] I have now also installed FF for Android. Waow ... Incredibly slow. Waiting all the time. Chrome is soo much faster and Samsung Interbrowser (default app on my Samsung tablet) is even faster than Chrome.

Firefox for desktop: that is okay. Chrome vs Firefox, well, frankly I don't see much difference performance wise. I have fast Internet here (500Mbit/s fiber) and my router Asus RT-88U is also quite okay.

So it is definitely Firefox.

With synchronizing in mind I was aiming for the FF Desktop/Android combo. Not sure for FF on Android though. FF on Android, it is more ways to tweak, definitely. This is really a 'pro' for FF. AFAIK the above matters can not be set in Chrome on Android.

But the speed... even a simple Google home page takes way too much time to load. I believe the developers at Mozilla still have quite a lot to do there. Sorry .. again .. Yes, I know, this is off-topic.

Do you know a decent site/forum where I might some performance tweaks for FF on Android? The usual 'speed up'-stuff I find involve the desktop version.

Thanks.
