When I open a new private window, why can I see info from the current one? Surely they should be independant?

I'm in private browsing, logged-in to a website. I open a New Private Window and go to the same website. I find I am already logged-in! Surely the two windows, unlike separate tabs, should be independent? This implies that if I go to a different website in the second window, it will not be Private to the first one - they are sharing info!

Hi arbee, the purpose of private windows in Firefox is to avoid writing history to disk or using/affecting cookies or cached files from regular windows. See: Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history.

Private windows share a single "cookie jar" among them. If you need more isolation, you could consider using Firefox's Container technology, which can isolate a single tab or a group of tabs. The easiest way is to use the following add-on. Note that the initial container categories are examples, and you can create new ones with names more suited to your purpose.
