I added a new email address to the contacts on one computer. When I sat down at another computer (on the network) the address was no where to be found????
both computers have Thunderbird. Both are connected to the network. Both are receiving email updates.
A recently added address is not showing up on other networked computers.
Should throw the computer out? :)

Address books aren't synchronized between computers in normal setups, unlike mail in IMAP accounts. One option is to sync contacts with a cloud account using add-ons like TBSync or gContactSync.
