Thunderbird suddenly start showing this error, nothing changed from my side. password checked and is correct.

did everything listed in google link above. not working yet!

thunderbird version: 60.5.1

I did. but not worked. BTW, I managed to fix it by enabling 2-Step Verification and then using app password.

may i ask what you mean by using app password? i've been struggling all day with this problem and willing to give 2-step verification a try. thanks!

thanks! it looks intimidating though when you're close to 71. i have no idea why at 10am thunderbird stopped downloading my gmail. it's been working for years .....

Because gmail declared everyone but themselves "less secure." You want to use their service, you play their rules. This applies to all email clients not just Thunderbird.

as of this morning it has fixed itself!
