Are unsupported add-ons (legacy extensions) automatically uninstalled despite being listed in 'Unsupported?'

I didn't see specific information regarding whether or not Legacy Extensions are removed/uninstalled if they're no longer supported. I don't want to replace the extension, I just want confirmation that despite being listed in 'unsupported' the add-on is removed from my computer, as opposed to just being disabled.

No, unsupported extensions are not automatically removed from Firefox. I have no reason why that is, but it's been that way since Firefox 57 came out and Legacy extensions were no longer supported as of Nov 2017.

Extensions like that "Norton Security Toolbar" aren't inside of Firefox, extensions installed automatically by external (external to Firefox) applications are installed in that applications program files, and as such are controlled by the application.

IOW, you should ask Norton support for help with removing that extension. Or if you aren't using Norton any longer, uninstall that application. And if Norton is still being used on that computer, it should clean up after itself and remove the old extension when a newer version of that extension is installed during an update of the Norton application.

Extensions that do not have a "Remove" button are installed globally by other software and are not under control of the Firefox extension manager. Globally installed extensions are usually found via a registry scan or are installed in a location that Firefox scans for installed extensions.

Extensions installed globally need to be removed via the settings (Options/Preferences) of the program that has added this extension or this program has to be uninstalled via "Control Panel -> Programs". In Firefox you can only disable such an extension.

You can find the install location of a specific extension in the extensions.json file in the profile folder. You can open the extensions.json file in the Scratchpad or in a tab and search for this extension. The path field lists its install location.
