After clicking to save image, I can see an Explorer dialog box disappear quickly, followed by FF freezing, having to use task manager to close FF down

Did you possibly recently saved a file to a removable device that is currently not available ?

No, although I have external drives attached, anything downloaded or saved goes straight into the C: drive first

I do not have this issue using the Edge browser, which I'd rather not get dependent upon

How many downloaded files appear in the Downloads panel in the Library window?

Try clearing the Download cache to see if that might solve that problem.

Having such difficulty with this issue, I've decided to reinstall Windows
