Hi all,

I reinstalled windows on my laptop and I did not backed up my Mozilla bookmarks, because I have an account and I am signed in. Chrome stores everything under my account and restores it all (forms, credentials, bookmarks) into the new browser, when I log into my account, so this is why I did not back up in Mozilla.

When I reinstalled mozilla on the new OS, and logged into my account, my bookmarks are completely gone. Is there a database that could restore my bookmarks? I had hundreds of them, most of them using for work and it would be a tremendous help if I could recover them.

I tried accessing my account and see if there's an option to restore. No luck. I tried going to logins & passwords to see any settings that might help. No luck. I tried to search on other devices that I use, for Mozilla bakups. No luck.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

The Firefox Sync service IS NOT A DATA BACKUP SERVICE. It was not designed to be one, so it doesn't always function well as one. The copy of the data that gets stored on Firefox Sync is not always complete, nor does it necessarily get permanently stored.

Additionally, certain account actions, like resetting your Firefox Account password without using your recovery key, will delete the stored data.

If you don't have a backup copy of your Firefox profile data, then you may be out of luck, unless you have another device with the same data on it.

If you have other devices that have that data on them, the easiest thing to do is to export the bookmarks to HTML on that device and then import them into the browser.

You can check if you have a "C:\Windows.old" folder with your personal data.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
