I just finished playing a game called Star Citizen. When I went to click my Thunderbird icon to check my mail it was missing from the quick launch bar so I went to the windows start and launched Thunderbird from there.... to my shock and horror my mail account was gone and Thunderbird was asking my to create an account access. I gave it my name, my existing ISP email address and password and more shock!!! It did not come up with all my mail folders and contacts etc. It all appears to be missing. This is a disaster. Can anyone please help to recover my prior existing email account.

Thanks for any help

Do not post your email address or any other personal information on public internet forums. In Thunderbird, go to Help > Troubleshooting Information > about:profiles. See if you have more than two profiles listed. If you do, launch the one that is NOT in use and see if it has your lost data.

It was helpful in that it gave me something to check, but that was not my problem. Although not a desirable way to fix it.... I used a restore point backup

Develop a habit of regularly backing up your Thunderbird profile folder. As a computer user, this is something you should be doing routinely, not just for Thunderbird data, but for all your important data too. System Restore alone is not a reliable recovery strategy. You are lucky it saved you this time. Next time something breaks you may not be so lucky. Also consider making regular system image backups. Those are far more reliable than System Restore. All you need is an external hard drive and backup software.
