Thunderbird Does Not Read my Full Inbox

Hi. I'm using Thunderbird for the first time. I configured it with my Yahoo email account. The Thunderbird client shows a subset of the messages that are in the Yahoo inbox: Thunderbird does not show all of the messages that are in my Yahoo inbox.

Why is that? I must be doing something wrong because that's too big of a flaw to not be fixed. Can I run some kind of command to somehow sync my Thunderbird inbox with my Yahoo inbox?

OP: Update. I restarted Thunderbird and now it sees all the Yahoo inbox messages.

Still, that does not make me feel confident. How do I know in the future whether or not Thunderbird is dropping email messages?
