My Mac uses macOS Catalina Version 10.15.7 and my MacBook Pro laptop is unsuitable for updates to later Operating Systems. All was working happily until Fitefox was updated to the latest version {91.0 (64 bit) I think} which has a screen display wih a left side-column that I cannot remove as well as an invonvenient display. How can I downdate back to the previous version which was great for me?

This could be a problem with High Contrast Mode on Mac. See "New" in the release notes. Firefox now automatically enables High Contrast Mode when "Increase Contrast" is checked on MacOS in the Accessibility settings.

Make sure you allow pages to choose their own colors.

  • Settings -> General: Fonts & Colors -> Colors: "Override the colors specified by the page with my selections above"

Try "Never" if the default "Only with High Contrast themes" isn't working.

Is the left side column the sidebar? Usually the sidebar shows either bookmarks or history, but add-ons also can use the sidebar. More info in this article: Use the Firefox Sidebar to access bookmarks, history and synced tabs.
