I have loads of Nstmp folders that keep creating, I cannot delete the duplicated emails even when I ticked the work offline box to delete them. I select delete they go then then reappear. keeps saying I do not have enough disk space. I have transferred thousands of documents to an external hard drive to free up space but still says not enough disc space.

Nstmp files get created when compacting, but should get deleted. In your case it sound like compacting is getting interupted and not completeing properly. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Nstmp_folders

If you are talking about an IMAP account, then there is the issue that those folders maybe on the server.

1. In Thunderbird - if imap account then unsubscribe from seeing those folders. 2. Access webmail account via a browser and make sure to delete them from server. 3. In Thunderbird, access profile name folder and delete any Nstmp files. In Thunderbird

  • Menu app icon > Help > More TRoubleshooting Information
  • Under 'Application Basics' - Profile Folder - click on 'Open Folder'

A new window opens showing contents of profile name folder

  • Exit Thunderbird now this is important

For POP accounts:

  • Click on 'Mail' folder
  • Click on 'POP mail account name' folder

For IMAP accounts:

  • Click on 'ImapMail' folder
  • Click on 'imap mail account name' folder
  • delete any files or folders with the name 'nstmp'
  • Start Thunderbird

Rather than compact all folders - suggest compact one folder a time and target these folders first 'Junk', 'Drafts', 'Inbox'.
