Is there are Firetray like extension that works on RockyLinux?

I'm using Thunderbird 91.7.0

I want an icon to appear when I have a new message and disappear after I read the message or click in that folder and click away.

I tried Birdtray but I get the error “Sorry, system tray cannot be controlled through this add-on on your operating system”.

I've found a few other extensions but they all have been abandoned like Firetray.

re :I want an icon to appear when I have a new message and disappear after I read the message or click in that folder and click away.

I use the standard settings in Thunderbird. The initial alert is set up to display for X number of seconds and then go away. But then an envelope icon appears in the tray until I click on it etc. This sounds the same as you desire.

  • Menu app icon > Preferences > General
  • scroll to 'Incoming mails'
  • Select 'Show a tray icon for unread messages'.

@Toad-Hall I don't have "Show a tray icon for unread messages". I have "Use the system notification" and it's checked.

I've read Gnome 3 has dropped the support for tray icon but I'm still researching this.

After the initial notification, I have no visual indication a new email exists like I did with Firetray. I was using Firetray on a CentOS machine with Gnome 2.
