I think you need to start with the incorrect assumption that Thunderbird uses 587 by default. In a proiperly functioning system with internet access the settings for gmail will be downloaded from here https://autoconfig.thunderbird.net/v1.1/gmail.com Not the port for SMTP is 465.

So if you are having accounts created using anything but the approved configuration (port 465), then clearly Thunderbird is not able to be access that web site address when the account setup commences, hence a guessing game ensues that could result in a "guessed" connection using port 587. But first you need to figure out why Thunderbird can't access it's database to get the correct information. I suggest you look to your antivirus, and internet security suite or a firewall that may be blocking access to the web address.

There was code introduced in V91 to automatically convert gmail SMTP to use oauth. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/automatic-conversion-google-mail-accounts-oauth20 I am however not aware of an instance where someone alleged Thunderbird changed ports used following that conversion. It may be possible that there is an addon that might be messing with your settings. I suggest you look in the troubleshooting information on the help menu under "add-ons" to see if you have any installed, especially ones you don't recognize!

You might post that information (add-ons) and the following Security software segment here once you access it. Others might see something you don't.

Well, I have added Thunderbird to the apps allowed through the Firewall. I did notice that Firefox was already allowed.

I can’t figure how to modify Windows Defender.

I have found the Troubleshooting information. (I think)

I have copied it here. It does show the Add-ons. The only add-on that was active was “Manually sort folders” and I have deactivated it. However, I do not think that “Manually sort folders” would be causing a problem.

In a previous question you posted you said "I have EIGHT Gmail accounts"

You seem to have added more since that previous question which was only 10 days ago.

I notice you have 10 gmail accounts and three of them have additional identities - other email addresses that makes a total of 14 gmail email addresses.

It seems very weird that all 14 gmail smtp accounts have set themselves to use port 587 when the default is 465.

I also notice you mentioned : "I am using the Portable version of Thunderbird. 102.9.0 (32-bit)" G:\Thunderbird Portable\App\thunderbird\thunderbird.exe

That means there are 14 different gmail email addresses. First you need to be absolutely certain that each gmail account and identity is actually using its own smtp. Always check the following via this Outgoing Server list method.

• Menu icon > Account Settings
• Scroll to bottom of left pane - below 'Local Folders' and click on 'Outgoing Servers (SMTP)'

All the outgoing servers will get listed in the right pane. you should have one for each email address meaning you have 14 gmail smtp. Q: How many Outgoing gmail smtp servers have you got listed?

• Post an image showing the list.

Working down from top to bottom for each gmail smtp.

• Select smtp in list
• click on 'Edit'.
• Description: type email address = User Name - this is important.
• Set Port: 465
• User Name = full gmail email address.
• Click on 'OK'

Select next gmail smtp and repeat the same steps. Obviously each smtp will have a different User Name / email address.

If you find one email address does not have it's own smtp then click on 'Add' and enter the correct settings to create another smtp.

Secondly - check that every account and identity are using their own smtp. In Left pane starting at the top and work down for each gmail account.

• Select name of account
• Look bottom right for the 'Outgoing Server (SMTP)':
• The 'Description' entered in each smtp is now useful.
• Does the Description email address match the same as the selected account ?
• If no, then click on the drop down and select the correct email address smtp for the account.

DO NOT click on the 'Edit SMTP_Server' button because you could end up editing something that is used by another account. First it is important to check all the account really are using their own smtp server.

If this account has additional identities:

• click on 'Manage Identities' button
• select the additional identity and click on Edit
• Settings tab - look at the bottom for Outgoing Server (SMTP)
• Check - is that email address identity using the correct smtp ?
• It must use the one which has Description saying it's for that email identity address.
• click on the drop down to locate the correct smtp

DO NOT click on the 'Edit SMTP_Server' button.

Repeat the above check on each account and identity, so you are now certain every account is using the correct smtp.

When you have checked and possibly corrected each and every account and identity. Exit Thunderbird Wait a few moments for background processes to complete. Start Thunderbird.

We need to see that all the changes have been saved and are being used on start up.

• Menu icon > Help > More TRoubleshooting Information
• Scroll to 'Mail and News' section
• Copy all the data only in that section and paste into this forum.

These addons are disabled but uninstall them as they are not designed to work with current TB version.

Now, you mentioned the accounts 14, 16 and 18. See the attachment.

You will notice that they have multiple identities but the identities are the same. These are not additional addresses but, for some reason, duplicate and triplicate entries that seem to be the same.

See #18 for example.

Shall I simply remove one? Which one? Using the "Manage Identities"

When you remove a POP account via Account Settings > Account Actions > Remove Account: The Pop account is removed from the Account Settings and also the Folder Pane. But, it is not removed from the Profile Name > 'Mail' folder. Why ? Because Thunderbird realises it was a Pop account and that may mean this is your only copy of downloaded emails which if deleted may be disastrous and cause a loss of emails. It may mean you can recover emails or recover the folder structure saving you a lot of work resorting the Inbox. It is essential that those pop folders do not get auto deleted when a pop account is Removed.

It means when you recreate a POP account, Thunderbird knows you already have a gmail account using pop.gmail.com so it creates another one but adds a number eg: pop.gmail-1.com. However, before downloading any emails into that recreated pop account, you can immediately point that newly recreated account to use the original account folder via the Account Settings > Server Settings > Local directory thus restoring all emails and continuing to use the original set of folders many of which you may have created. Some people may not have auto deleted emails from the server when downloading emails, so the new account will simply redownload everything providing the gmail webmail settings are set up to do it. This means you now have a duplicate set of emails in two separate profile account folders Or if that is not the case you can get copies from the original pop account folder and copy them over to the new account folder.

If you have more than one gmail email address then additional pop accounts using pop server eg: pop.gmail.com; will also get a pop account folder with an extra number.

How to find out which pop.gmail-n.com are you currently using for any particular gmail account:

• 'Account Settings' > 'Server Settings' for the pop gmail email address/account
• Bottom right locate: 'Local directory:'

You may need to make the window wider to see all the text in Local directory: But it will say something like this:

• G:\Thunderbird Portable\Data\profile\Mail\pop.gmail-3.com

In which case do not delete the pop.gmail-3.com folder.

In the profile mail folder, you can delete any pop.gmail-n.com folder that you are not currently using in any of your current pop gmail accounts, but only do this if you are certain those folders do not contain emails you may need to restore. But you may feel there is no point in keeping several pop account folders that contain identical sets of accounts.

Usually, the top one is the default one, it will also have bold font to indicate it is default and it will be the one shown in the left pane of Account Settings.

It seems you created additional identical identities for the same account.

• Click on 'Manage Identities'
• Select second in list and click on 'Delete'
• Click on 'Close'
• Check the account is still in the Account Settings. It should not get removed.

First, I'll address the list of Outgoing Servers. I would prefer to PM the list to you. It is a bit sensitive. I can also send you a list of all the accounts in my “Get Messages” list. That is so you can help me reconcile the anomalies in my setup. (Number of Gmail accounts etc.)

Second, the message folders. I have Thunderbird setup for all the messages for all the accounts to go to the Local Inbox. The accounts do not have individual Inboxes. I also have Folders for most of my important emails. Jim, Bob, Brother, Sister, Banking etc. Filters send emails to each folder. The “Profile” Mail Folders are empty. I’m not using any of the “pop.gmail-n.com” folders in the Profile\Mail folder for emails. I also have Thunderbird delete all messages from the Server after downloading. I backup my messages locally. I also do not have my contacts stored on the Servers. Hack my account and get nothing!!!

I will correct each Gmail SMTP ports today.

Also, all references with TSTT are old and no longer used. As a matter of fact, TSTT Server does not exist. Also, several others are no longer used.

OK. I get it. You have set up all the Pop accounts as deferred folders - aka using ' Global Inbox (Local Folders)'

I'll have to do some digging because for some reason I'm recalling something from quite a while ago about gmail accounts set up to use 'Global Inbox' and the smtp port getting set as 587.

I'll see what I can find out.

REgarding the SMTP server settings.

Follow same instructions as previously on how to access the 'Outgoing Server (SMTP)' list. For each gmail smtp - you need one for each mail account/email address.

• Set 'Description as email address = username'
• Leave the Port setting as 587
• Change 'Connection Security' to 'STARTTLS'
• click on OK
