there used to be a small house icon on the tool bar that would take you back to your home page no matter where you were. 4.0 does not have this or has it been moved to another location?

By default it is now on the right hand side of the navigation toolbar. You can move it back if you want, for details on how to do that see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/how-do-i-customize-toolbars

I have read the page you posted quite a few times now and cannot see how to move the Home Page button - only how to add a new bar, which is not what I want to do. Is there a different page with instructions for dumb people like me???????

The section called "How do I customize or rearrange toolbar items?" is the important part.

  1. Right-click on a toolbar and choose Customize, this will open the customize toolbar window
  2. You can then drag the Home icon from its current location on the toolbar and drop it onto another part of the toolbar to move it
  3. Click Done to complete the process.
