why will FF4.0 not install properly?
System Win 7 Home Premium , 6 gigs ram. 2.8 ghz processor. Have tried installing as an upgrade from 3.6, but my google home page is same as before. No Firefox button in left top corner, and no bookmarks icon on right hand side. A check using the Help, about Firefox menu indicates I have an up to date version of FF4.0 I have also tried installing as a new program instead of an upgrade, with the same results. Please help.

Not sure what you are trying to do or expecting. If for instance your toolbars are customised firefox 4 may have retained those custom settings.
Turn off the menubar toolbar if you want to see the new orange firefox button. Right click on a blank area of a toolbar to open a drop down option and then start the customise menu; if you wish to make further changes.
