I have FIOS 50/25 internet. When I run speedtest.net I get a down load speed in the low to mid 40's ,yet, when I run the same test in IE9 the download speed is typically high 50's to low 60's. Upload speed is about the same for both. I don't understand what is causing the difference. FIOS says it has to do with the browser. FYI I keep the cache etc clean. So, anyone have any ideas as to why the difference? Thanks

Do you use F-Secure as your antivirus?

I use AVG Internet Security 2012

Alright. Try the following steps: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

If that does not correct the issue, then try to configure your Firewall/Antivirus to allow Firefox.

Thanks for your reply. Before I do a reset I checked my firewall and FF has full permissions. Also, I did a little experiment where I restarted FF with all add ons disabled and then checked the speed again. The download speed was only slightly faster than before. I need to ask this question. Is FF suppose to be faster than IE9 or is there something the way FIOS configures their download to make it work faster with IE9? I have the same add ons, relatively speaking with IE9 that I have with FF. So, I guess you're still recommending a reset as opposed to a reinstall? Thanks

I did the reset procedure and it had no effect on the download speed. Still running in the low 40's. FF has full permission firewall settings. Any other suggestions?

FYI I called my Internet Service provider, Verizon, to ask if there's something in the way FIOS is configured that would account for the difference in download speeds between IE9 and FF 14. According the FIOS tech support their configuration is optimized for maximum efficiency in IE9 not FF 14. So there is nothing to change with FF to make it any faster with FIOS.
