Windows Media Player plugin with Firefox not listed as suitable for SP3?
I am running XP SP3 and have Windows Media Player 11 installed....when I check my plug-ins in Firefox Microsoft DRM and Windows Media Player Plug-in Dynamic Link Library both show as outdated (9.0.0.3250), however, when I click on 'update' Windows Media Player 11 shows (which I already have) and a Windows Media Player ActiveX control for Firefox, which is not listed as suitable for XP SP3 (only SP2)?
Please advise me. Thank you.

You can install the new WMP plugin (np-mswmp.dll), you only have the classic WMP plugin (Npdsplay dll)
It looks like the plugin for XP hasn't seen any changes for quite some time. Please see this.

Thanks very much to both of you for helping me. Yes, I can't remember the last time I checked all my Firefox plug-ins.
I have installed the new WMP plug-in (np-mswmp.dll)....and that just leaves the Microsoft DRM (9.0.0.3250) showing as outdated....when I click update on that the same options as before show....download Windows Media Player 11 (which I already have) and the plug-in that I have just installed? What should I do about that please?

You can try to delete the pluginreg.dat file in the Firefox Profile Folder after exiting Firefox. To open the profile folder via Firefox: Help (Alt + H) > Troubleshooting Information > Show Folder. At the next Firefox startup the file will be created and updated, if there is a new version of the plugin installed on the system.
Firefox Profile Folder & Files
If the issue persists: Depending on your usage pattern, you may safely ignore that, or Disable it in Firefox Tools (Alt + T) > Add-ons > Plugins until you hit a roadblock when trying to play protected media. Please see this. The Windows OS forum would also be helpful in that case.
You may also have to delete the addons.sqlite file in addition to deleting pluginreg.dat
Your detailed answers and links were much appreciated. I deleted both the pluginreg.dat and addons.sqlite files....but there isn't a new version of the plug-in showing, so as you suggested I will just ignore it until I hit a roadblock.
You both helped me equally....can't choose just one answer as the solution and not able to pick two.

Sounds that the WMP installer didn't create the registry keys that Firefox needs to find the WMP plugin via a registry scan.
You may need to create a plugins folder and copy the np-mswmp.dll file to that folder.
