Is it possible to set the start up and new tabs pages on firefox for android to open a user defined home page again rather than the new history/favourites pages?

Many thanks. After trawling various forums I had assumed that was unfortunately the case.

Hi illumin8

as of firefox 29 you can disable top sites and bookmarks and any other tab on the Home screen.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/use-awesome-screen-search-web-bookmarks-and-more#w_customize-your-home-screen

This gets you part way there but doesn't allow you to set your own home page. It should be possible to write an add-on to display your home page on startup but I don't think there's one that works with the current firefox. If anybody knows of one please let me know or post a reply here!

Cheers!

Yes, this is one of the most basic and glaring oversights in the FF Android client. Judging by all of the comments I've seen, I'm not alone in thinking that the Awesome page isn't so awesome. When I open the browser I just want it to open to my home page, PERIOD. I start 95% of my browsing from Google's homepage, which is super quick to load. So on those occasions when I want to choose a destination from my bookmarks or top sites or whatever, I could press the address bar to bring up those tabs. The same goes for new tabs. When I open one, 95% of the time it's because I've thought of something else I want to search for while keeping my other tab(s) open. So I want my new tabs to open to my home page, PERIOD.

Even though this most basic of browser features ought to be in the UI, it should at the very least be possible to set using the about:config page like on the desktop client. For example, you can create the string/value for browser.newtab.url just like you can do in the desktop browser, but the Mobile client ignores the setting. This is horrible design IMO.

I'm also really surprised there's no add-on for this, unless for some reason the functionality is locked down and unable to be changed via add-on.
