This morning, my browser was having problems accessing the pages I use at work.

I restarted in Troubleshooting mode, and the problems went away, great.

Now I want to figure out which addon / extension caused the problem.

The "best" way I've found online is to enable half of them and restart in regular mode, if the problem is gone, then enable half of the remainder, see if the problem is gone, etc. until the problem comes back. This involves a lot of restarting and keeping track of which ones have been tested.

What I'd really like is a way to do all this from troubleshooting mode, enabling one addon at a time and testing a certain website until it breaks or I run out of addons, like Git Bisect or similar. Maybe sort the addons in reverse chronological order of addition or update, since the most recently added/updated addons are the most likely to be the problem.

This is one of those times where the feature has to be part of the browser, not an addon. :-)

Is this already implemented and I just haven't looked hard enough or recognized what I was seeing?

Thanks

I've noticed that when using Firefox on Ultrawide 32:9 I get major blurry artifacting across the window and webpages. These can occur on the webpage itself, or they can occur in the URL/Tab bar. Once the window exceeds a certain width (roughly 75% the width of my screen) I begin to see these artifacts (if that's what they're called). If the window is downsized to half, or just slightly under 3/4 the width of the screen, these visual glitches don't appear. I've tried disabling hardware acceleration as recommended, but this doesn't seem to fix the issue or change it in any way. I have a Samsung LS49CG932SNXZA (Odyssey G9 OLED) display running at 5120x1440 240hz on a 4070ti GPU.

I am able to repeat this issue using Amazon as an example website, and I've attached some example screenshots. In Amazon, the issue is obvious and appears across the entire webpage, except for where the cursor has an interaction with the page (such as highlighting text, or hovering over something causing a transition). In the Tab/URL bar, setting the window as wide as possible and then hitting the WIN button to open the Start Menu seems to cause the issue 100% of the time. Running my cursor across a blurry section of the Tab bar seems to temporarily revert a portion of the it to looking normal again. If there's any more information I can give, or anything else I can try, please let me know.

I also found this reddit post, which seems like others with ultrawide displays may also have this issue without a fix. https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/1bcrsy8/ui_and_text_is_blurry_with_ultrawide_5120x1440/

One of the things I heavily rely on with FireFox is it storing words I type in reply boxes on various forums. Lately however, Firefox only seems to keep them for several hours, then they disappear. For example, I can type in "K Frame." (See image attached) The next time I go to use that field again, that text will automatically appear. And it may continue to do so for several hours, even if I close out Firefox and return later, but eventually, within 24 hours, it will disappear and I will have to retype it again the nest time I want to use that phrase. FireFox used to hold these words or phrases forever.

Any suggestions????? Both my Windows 11 and Firefox are up to date.

Nothing unusual in Windows 11 or Firefox Settings. Clicking the padlock icon, I see that connections are secure, but when a mouse-down cursor carrying a URL or image moves beyond the browser, it changes into a red circle-slash icon that fails to deliver the link or image.

Works fine in Edge (but I don't). Fixes and suggestions most welcome.

I have a odd issue where, whenever i click one of the buttons on my mouse, Firefox either goes a page forwards or backwards depending on which mouse button i click. When it goes a page forward, but it's not available, it instead goes back to the Firefox homescreen. I've had to rewrite this several times because whenever i click on a new section to type, it goes back a page.

This issue happens at random. Sometimes i will click on a empty spot on any site and only on the 10th click will it go a page back, but other times it happens instantly.

I use a programme JOSM / TM4 from HOTOSM that creates digital maps.

TM 4 is a programme in which area is divided into pieces (tasks) where a task can be selected by participants (mappers). This task is assigned to JOSM. Within this programme, a ‘changeset’ can be called for processing in JOSM.

Message from JOSM ‘remote control has been asked to import data from the following URSL ( This is opened within JOSM https://www.openstreetmap.org/api/0.6/changeset/158340818/download (the number at the end can change) Normal situation is that this happens 1 time. Now the situation is, when in the browser the changeset is still open this is spontaneously sent to JOSM. And that several times, each time a page I visited earlier. Very annoying. The JOSM helpdesk gives this message. Quote:

Since a week or so I see this behaviour. I use Firefox internet explorer and have often a OSMcha and changesets open. The Data layers which opens are always the same as the changesets I have opened. No idea if there is an interference with that. Thanks for looking into this comment:2 by stoecker, 4 days ago

Sounds like a "background load" to me. The Web browser tries loading the URL in background and each time you get a new layer. Closing the TABS in the browser may help or if possible disabling background fetches for the localhost URLs? comment:3 by taylor.smock, 4 days ago Owner: changed from team to Frans.schutz@… Status: new → needinfo

I agree with stoecker.

As a first step, I would turn off/disable Remote Control. If this fixes the issue, then you have a poorly behaving website that is continually calling JOSM remote control.

See wiki:Help/Preferences/RemoteControl. follow-up: 5 comment:4 by anonymous, 3 days ago

Hello I disabled the remote control, but than I have no access to JOSM when I want to open a task in TM4

Till last week, Firefox did not respond as what I now see.

I try to close open OSMcha and changesets to see if this solve the issue Bestregards in reply to: 4 comment:5 by taylor.smock, 3 days ago

Replying to anonymous:

I disabled the remote control, but than I have no access to JOSM when I want to open a task in TM4

That was expected. The question is, did disabling remote control fix the issue. If so, then something is calling JOSM remote control in a loop, and it is not a bug in JOSM.

I try to close open OSMcha and changesets to see if this solve the issue

Once you figure out what website is the problem, I would highly recommend filing a ticket with them. Absent that, put the website (preferably with the full URL -- most browsers let reopen the last closed tab) in this ticket and I'll look into the sites bug report procedure.

I have been using Linux Mint 21+ since May of 2023. At that time I set all the Firefox preferences settings to what I've always set them to in the past, and have run Firefox with them ever since then. Now, about 3-4 weeks ago, I started Firefox and it came up with ONLY blue lines of text (not graphically). My Firefox homepage is "isp.netscape.com". I've waited until now to report the problem, since I was hoping that later Firefox updates would fix itself, but this did not occur with the 3-5 Firefox recent updates.

Originally, I posted the problem to the Linux Mint forums with the following title under SOFTWARE & APPLICATIONS: Firefox browser no longer graphical but only lines of blue text

Somebody there advised me to start Firefox in safe mode, which I did with this command in the terminal: firefox -safe-mode

and to my surprise, Firefox then came up graphically once again. However, going through the Firefox preferences and setting them one at a time, I came to what is causing the problem. Setting PRIVACY & SECURITY -> BROWSER PRIVACY -> HISTORY: "Remember History" to "Never Remember History" forces Firefox to reboot and when it comes up it came up with only blue lines of text, and not graphically.

One responder to my post on Linux Mint forums stated that it was also a problem with her on Windows 11. So, this is not a Linux Mint, or Windows 11 issue, but a Firefox issue. Mozilla made some change to Firefox back 4-5 weeks now that all of a sudden made Firefox come up in blue lines of text, and I changed nothing with Firefox since started with Linux Mint 21.3 1.5 years ago. I will add though, that ONLY my Firefox homepage (listed above) is the only page that is affected by this, every other website I visit comes up graphically.

What's UP?

Ron

I discovered this issue while trying to chat on Twitch. On my m1 macos, I try to insert emoji into the twitch chat via <control+command+space> shortcut and opening up the emoji picker. When I click on a emote to insert, nothing is inserted. Then, when I try to do the same into the developer's console via <command+option+i> , again nothing is inserted. This does not appear to be the case on Chrome.

Steps to reproduce: 1) be on macOS 2) open emoji picker via <control+command+space> 3) try to insert emoji into twitch chat OR developer's console

nothing is inserted
